How to choose the right engagement ring for you.

Okay, you’ve been in a relationship for a while now and are thinking that it could be time to take it to the next step. What now? You’ve made the first step already, so this exciting time has begun! One excellent option for those who want a truly unique and personalised ring is to opt for a custom engagement ring from Gavin Fisher Jewellery. Gavin Fisher is a master jeweller with over 25 years of experience, and his skill in creating one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect the wearer’s personality and style.

Let’s take a walk through the simple steps of that symbolic gesture of giving someone you love an engagement ring.

  1. Set a budget

How much to spend on an engagement ring? Before you start, think about a realistic budget you can put towards the project. A custom made ring will generally cost a little more than a ring off the shelf, but it’s worth the investment for a unique and personalised piece. Think about how far you can comfortably push it, because this is going to be worn everyday for years and years.

No matter what the budget is though, the same skill and care is taken to make the best piece possible.

  1. Book a chat with Gavin Fisher Jewellery

Next, you’ll need to book a consultation. Best is to do it in person as it is easier to get to know you and your partner, get an idea of styles and tastes, show different ideas and discuss budget, look at stones and all our options, but if you can’t make it in, we can still chat over video call and cover everything we need to.

This is probably the most important step in the process as we talk about which direction to go in, whether it be a traditional diamond engagement ring or a coloured gemstone engagement ring Like a sapphire emerald or ruby or even something more unique like a spinel or tourmaline.

We can discuss what’s important to you, the pros and cons of each stone and looking at the best diamond options or best coloured gemstone options for your engagement ring. We also talk about stone quality and parameters that you are happy to stick within.

We may need a secondary appointment to look at specialised sourced stones to fit our search criteria. For more information about diamond grading click here.

  1. Moving forward with design

Once/if you are happy with the process and design concept that we discuss, we take a deposit to get started and then hand sketch the design for your approval.

  1. Metal choice

Which metal should you go with? I’ll talk with you regarding the different ethical options, whether it be gold (yellow, white or rose typically) or platinum, and what would work best with your partner’s style and also skin tone. For more information about metal choice, read here.

  1. Crafting the ring

This is the easy part for you. Gavin Fisher Jewellery will begin putting all the skill and care into making this concept become a reality. Any questions along the way are more than welcome and the team will keep you informed. This process generally takes between 5-6 weeks, but trust me, you don’t want to rush this process. In the end, you’ll have an engagement ring that has had all the love and care forged into it!

  1. Collecting the ring

Once the ring is complete, you’ll be informed and we’ll book in a time to collect the ring. Generally the proposal will be a surprise, so if the finger size isn’t quite right, we will size the ring free of charge. It will also give a chance for your partner to meet the creator and talk over some care instructions.

In conclusion

In conclusion, buying a custom engagement ring from Gavin Fisher Jewellery is an excellent way to ensure that you get a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects your style and personality. With the utmost skill and care put into each ring, you can be confident that you’re making an investment in a high-quality piece of jewellery that will last a lifetime. So, don’t hesitate to book a consultation with Gavin Fisher Jewellery today and start the journey to creating your dream engagement ring.
