While your engagement ring is quite rightly the first ring on your mind when planning a proposal and marriage, you should hold the thought that it is likely you will wear your wedding band more. If you intend to wear your engagement ring and wedding band as a set I will craft a design that accentuates and complements your engagement ring, while itself being a stunning wedding band on its own.

Wedding rings and bands—with or without diamonds or gemstones—need some annual attention to keep them looking in mint condition. I include free once a year servicing on any custom wedding rings I make. Wider bands can show some surface wear and tear over a year, especially with softer metals. I will polish the surface back to its original condition for you, removing any scratches. As well, I include a check and tighten of all set gemstones, full clean and shape, and rhodium plating for plated white gold pieces.

FIND YOUR JEWELLERY STYLE
It’s likely your wedding ring design won’t be a surprise and you will have time to discuss and plan the design properly. If you have an engagement ring you wish the wedding band to nest with then we will craft an engagement and wedding ring set that works when worn together, as well as when worn on its own. We can take into consideration the shape and size of the centre stone on your engagement ring, and craft a complementary design.
If you are going with no engagement ring and just a wedding band, as is common with men’s wedding rings, than we have more creative license to craft a unique custom make wedding ring. It is also wise to consider how to wear your wedding and engagement rings, as it is more likely you will wear your wedding ring every day. A ring design that does not impede your fingers while working will be much more enjoyable to wear.
Without a large centre diamond or gemstone your wedding ring should already cost much less than your engagement ring. But setting the right budget is still important as you still have your wedding to pay for after all! We can define a total budget when you initially design your engagement ring, or consider the wedding band on its own. Men usually have larger, heavier rings which require more precious metal. Women’s wedding rings can include diamond pavé around the band which can add up to several carats of diamonds in total. Think about your investment levels and we can have an open discussion about what will work within your budget and design a wedding ring to that.

Book your personal jewellery consultation so we can chat about your wedding ring inspiration and possible wedding band designs. If you are considering diamonds in your design I will educate you about the ‘five C’s’ of diamonds, and discuss possible precious gemstone choices.
We will also importantly discuss the precious metals and golds you like and prefer. In a men’s wedding ring it is typical the metal is the feature, so it worth considering different metals for wedding rings such as yellow gold, white gold, platinum and any number of other fine metal choices.
Now we get to the exciting and fun part of crafting wedding ring band designs. We take your inspiration combined with my knowledge and experience in handmade jewellery to craft several wedding ring designs. I explore different shapes of wedding rings in your metal options, sketching out design directions. If you want a wedding ring set I will design around the engagement ring. And if you are wanting couples wedding rings then I will design both simultaneously. Together we can review and hone the wedding ring design on paper to exactly what you desire and had imagined.

We have worked up the wedding ring design and looked at different metals for wedding rings. Now is the time to make the final design selection and start hand making your unique wedding ring. Because each wedding ring is custom made it takes roughly 3-4 weeks before the final ring is complete. Along the way I can send progress shots so you can see our creation coming together.
Your handmade unique wedding ring is complete, polished and presented in a custom Gavin Fisher Jewellery wooden ring box. Your made-to-order wedding ring is just as we designed together, and you’ve been well informed along the way.

Do you design the wedding band while designing the engagement ring?
How your custom wedding ring will fit with your handmade engagement ring is good to be discussed early on. The wedding band may need to accommodate a large centre diamond or gemstone so they fit together perfectly. Having an idea about your wedding band design when we first start designing your engagement ring will mean it works perfectly together. And we can also discuss the total desired ring investment.
What is the typical cost for wedding rings?
Custom wedding rings do not include a large diamond or gemstone, so the investment is much less than a handmade engagement ring. The benefit of going custom made is that we can talk about the total package and consider the wedding ring while discussing the initial engagement ring budget.
Do you make custom men’s wedding rings?
Yes, we will create something amazing for your handmade male wedding ring. There is a wide selection of precious metals to work with, including platinum, white gold and yellow gold; even rose gold has become more popular with men. And, with the right discreet setting, including a small accent diamond or gemstone is stunning feature on unique men’s wedding rings. I regularly make his and his men’s wedding bands for my gay clients who are tying the knot.
