Coloured Gemstones
More and more these days people are moving away from diamonds and towards coloured gemstones for a custom made engagement ring. There is so much more variety in coloured gemstones and each stone is more unique than a diamond. Adding colour, you can really add your personality into your ring.
There are also a lot of couples coming in for a major anniversary, that want to either update their engagement ring or have something completely new and coloured gemstones are almost always the choice to celebrate that 10, 20, 30+ anniversary.
Gemstones are by definition, material possessing beauty, durability and rarity.
A gemstone is a piece of mineral crystal. There are more than 3000 species of minerals, only about 100 are suitable gem materials!
Some classic examples of coloured gemstones are Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Aquamarine, Tourmaline, Spinel, Alexandrite, Garnet etc.

Birthstone history goes back thousands of years to biblical times, but standardised in the early 20th century. Custom made birthstone jewellery really is a great idea for so many occasions like birthdays, Mother’s Day, a new baby, friendship gifts and heaps more. Mothers will often have their children’s birthstones in a piece. Romantic couples combine their birthstones into a piece, friends gift birthstone jewellery to make a gift more personalised.
I love working with coloured gemstones because they are so unique, there are so many options and varieties and I feel that they express more of a person’s personality and individual style. I’ve been designing coloured gemstone designs for clients for years. Each stone tells a story and can influence how I go about designing the piece.
